Watch out for this if adding memory to Win 2003 server. If the memory upgrade increases the total memory to more than 4Gb then the PCI boot disk device adapter must support 64bit DAC (dual Address Cycle) commands, otherewise it will not boot.
PCI Adapters that support DAC commands will mulitplex the 32 address bits into 64 directly. Cards that do not support DAC will have to rely on the OS to provide buffering. For optimum performance systems with more than 4Gb should be using cards with DAC support anyway. |
