Hi all,
How can I configure my laptop with 2 network ports so that I can access 2 networks independantly ? Anybody help ? Thanks Sitting on the wall, not broken as yet |

You should see them both under My Network Places > Properties.
Unless you intend to team them they must be configured for separate subnets otherwise your laptop won't know which to use. You will effectively be sitting across two network segments with the potential to bridge them, if ip forwarding is enabled. If each subnet has its own DHCP server then you can get an ip address automatically. Alternatively you can manually configure IP address, subnet mask, routers and DNS servers (unless you are using the hosts table). If you only want one of them active at a time then use the disable/enable functions on the Network Places > Properties page. If you want the laptop to select which one to use automatically then it is essential that the routing tables are accurate. You may need to configure static routes for some address ranges. You can find basic information about networking on XP in the Help and Support when you press Start. Woolly M. |
