Does anyone know much about Beryl? Is likely to live happily within Windows XP or is it purely a Unix world thing?

If you are referring to Beryl for adding effects to the Linux desktop then yes it is pretty much a Linux world thing, although I do believe that it depends on a specific service like Xserver (Xorg), and I'm sure I read somewhere that it is technically possible to install Xorg on a windows machine.
