Just called by a customer saying my printer is out of paper and it won't print.

On enquiry the customer said that it was connected via a mechanical switch box

When the customer traced the cables it was found that the interface cable was only partialy connected, due to staff kicking off their footware by the system under the table.

Moral of the story, check the easy options before blaming the poor old printer.
