Hi,
I recently received an EMail regarding running OpenVMS Alpha on a PC - free emulator download from here. I downloaded the emulator and now have OpenVMS 8.3 Alpha running on a Dell PC on my desk as a single node Cluster and single instance Galaxy. The emulator provides a hardware platform on the PC with Direct Instruction Translation from the native Alpha machine code to Intel so you just install from a normal VMS Alpha CD. It provides up to 4 virtual SCSI disks which you can mount and use as normal disks. In addition you can also share the PC network adaptor with Windows. There are a few limitations but pretty much all of it works as though you are talking to a normal Alpha system. regards, Tea break over - back on yer heads..... |

How do I get out of here? |
Max 96MB memory, 2 disks and a blistering 25MIPS (anyone remembers MIPS...or VUPS?) emulating a DEC3000. Looks like you need a license for MS XP, PersonalAlpha and OVMS.
Wouldn't you be better off buying second user ALPHA's on Ebay............just think ........you could run TRU64 on it too !! (they might throw in the licenses for free !!) FT |
