I'm working on an ES40 that has three sets of memory installed as follows - Array 0 (4Gb), Array 1 (1Gb) and Array 3 (1Gb).
In my opinion Array 3 should have been installed in Array 2 as per the guidelines to install sets sequentially. Questions are:- 1) What are the implications of the "gap" in memory? 2) Would one expect a config error to be reported by the ES40 - I'd say possibly an RMC error 80 on power up. Dodge |

Hi Dodge,
You assume correctly. Memory should be configured Array0, then 1, then 2 etc. However I tried putting in memory in an ES40, alongggg time ago, by missing out some of the arrays inbetween & you DO NOT get memory configuration errors as long as you have it correctly configured in the arrays. The problem is, is that this is not a supported configuration, so if it works, fine(sort of I would strongly suggest that you configure it correctly as soon as is practically possible. If in doubt consult the "idiots" guide under the cpu/memory lid and/or the ES40 service guide HERE for the full memory configuration guidelines/info/etc... Cheers Mea(T),
I reconfig'ed the memory as per the guidelines. A further upshot was that I found the mixing of DIMM types in one of the arrays in said machine Bit of a mess really. Dodge |

Hi Dodger,
Glad to help Note, it is not advised to mix different manufactures memory even if they are "the same" in a set/array. It is still OK to use third party memory, just don't mix it. Regards, MEA[T] Jolly Jack Tar 3E Mess HMS "GUZZ" |
