3 questions in a week!

*faints*

Yesterday we came across a pair of identically configured Alpha 1000As, only there was a difference. Both machines have the same hardware in the same slots and the same jumper settings, but one of them has the on-board SCSI bus as PKA with a KZPAA as PKB like you would expect. The other one is the other way round and we can't find any setting that would make it do that.

We can't check the firmware revs on one of them because it's a production box and they won't let us log in or shut it down; the only reason we know the jumpers are the same is because the top lid interlock is bypassed so we could take the side off Smiler

Anyone?

Cheers

Hi Witchy,
Is there a problem with the box?? If there is no problem ??? then what are you looking for !!
Your question may make more sense if the systems are not working correctly but I guess being as you carn't shut them down / check them out, then all is OK ???
To check things out then I think you would need to go to console level [>>> prompt] and check out things like:
bus_probe_algorythm old or new Is the o/s VMS or Unix & what version as this will make a difference for this setting>: I would suggest that it should be new
pk* settings - any difference between the boxes ???
Cabling of the internal devices [cdrom / tape] & the internal / external storage disks to the controllers. The AS1000 / a can be cabled several different ways

From the info you have supplied, I'm making a guess that all works OK ???, both systems ARE AS1000a's, all cards ARE the same, same slot etc then it is possibly cabling moved around between the ctrl's ??? but really you need to shut them both down & check all the parameters / cabling etc to be sure.

This then goes back to "if it 'aint broke, why "fix" it ???" Confused

Regards
