Hi folks, it's been a while
A current Tru64 customer is being bumped over to RedHat by Oracle since that's this week's flavour of the, er, week and they'd like to upgrade their current maxed out ES40 to an ES45. Nosing round RedHat's site leads me to believe they don't support RHEL on anything that's not x86 any more, and OARS points me to RH V7.2 which is back from when it were all fields round here. I'm guessing we're stuck here, anyone got any pointers? None of us here are Integrity accredited yet so that's not an option...... cheers, A |

I did that first, then didn't believe it and thought I'd ask here
Looks like my customer is stymied and won't be happy because he likes his Alphas! Time to go and check if 'Orrible still supports Tru64 5.1b.... cheers |

I should get out more. |
Hi Witchy
Linux is not a good option on Alpha systems. As far as I can remember the DS20 was really the only system which was officially supported. I know that a DS20 was presented to Linus Torsvald as a promotional marketing exercise, but there was no real interest. Without checking the web site RH 7.2 was the last version available from Red Hat. Debian Linux may be another option, but I have not tried the Alpha version. There was a Alpha version from SuSE which I did try but it ended up as a hacking exercise to get anything close to working. The bottom line is to use the Alpha with Tru64 or change to an Intel/PC box and run Linux. "Free will is an illusion. People always choose the perceived path of greatest pleasure" |
