I have several queries regarding our san switch software sitting on our msa1000 SAN.
On the Portstats tab under Port info on the switch there are two stats that I do not understand the relevance of. The first is 'Encd Errs Outside Frames' the second is 'Loss of sync'. Can someone please tell me what these mean. The total for 'Encd Errs Outside Frames' seems very high 2367million, should I be worried. My other query is how do I reset these stats to zero? |

Hi Jez,
Direct from a HP ITRC: If a high (several thousand) er_enc_out errors are experienced on a particular port, the indications are that the signal is marginal between the connected device transmit port and the switch receive port. The diagnosis: marginal GBIC or cable on the connected device. Fibre or SCSI patching have also been known to cause these errors. Link initialization increments these values also. Hope that helps, meantime, I will endeavour to address your loss of sync issue. Kind regards Paul |

Thanks, so I guess 2367million is not good!
Any idea how to reset the counters? |

How do I get out of here? |
Hello Jez.......
Try the errClear and PortLogClear to reset the counters and errorlog - however - when we tried this - it was not dynamic, and we had to fastboot the switch before the counters cleared. Regards FT |

FYI.....The errors were caused by a dodgy fibre cable.
