We have an EVA5000 using snapshots and snapclones via data protector .However i wish to upgrade to vcs3110 from 3028 but the EVA is constantly in a levelling state .
Does anyone know how to speed up levelling or any suggestions apart from stopping the backup . |

How do I get out of here? |
Hi There,
Levelling is a background function of the EVA. I know of no way to spped this up unless you were to stop all the other activity, like users, from accessing the Vdisks then the EVA would have nothing to do except sort out the levelling. I suppose the users may complain!! As far as I am aware, there is also no stop or start function for levelling either. You can influence levelling by putting several disks into a disk group and then the EVA will level that disk group. How long does levelling take ? Well, there are no specified times because "it all depends"!! How busy is the EVA doing other work ? Are you creating / deleting snapshots/snapclones/etc... Unlike some Smart array type ctrls it is not possible to specify XX% read/write ratio either. I have never seen any figures for what % of processing the EVA does spend on individual tasks such as levelling so I am not able to give you any figures - it just depends. Bottom line, levelling can take days... You could do a search on HP's itrc forum for additional info. An example is here: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1141800 MEA[T] Jolly Jack Tar 3E Mess HMS "GUZZ" |
