I want to run nightly incrementals with a weekly consolidation (synthentic full).

If the consolidation is still running when the next incremental starts how does this affect the restore chain? Will the incremental be based on the last incremental and not reference the synthetic full until it is completely finished, or will it reference those parts of the consolidation that have finished and the previous incremental for the rest?

Hello Gavin
If the synthetic full was a on a tape library, then it is a copy & consolidation of existing incrementals and I would think that it would run fine. If the next incr is started before it had finished then the new incr would be part of the previous restore chain and therfore useless.

On a file based library using DFMF I would make sure that you never get into this situation in the first place. I would guess that the incr would fail because it would not be able to determine changed files correctly.
