Hello everyone.

I have an old brocade silkworm 2800 san switch & am trying to extend the fabric onto a new HP storageworks 4/8 san switch.

I have set port 0 on the new switch to 1gb & connected it to a free port on the old switch.

Both ports are now correctly identified as E_ports. Both switches have different domain ID's, but the new switch thinks its a pricipal switchrole. So does the old 2800.

How do I change the new unit to be a subordinate?

Thanks in advance
Steve

Dont hurt yourselves guys - Ive sorted it...

The Brocade 2800 is licensed for full fabric connectivity. The new SAN switch 4/8 is the base model with zero eport functionality.

The client has bought the wrong product. They should have bought the unit with the full fabric scaleability licene. Now they have to spend another £1200 to upgrade the product.

Unless anyone oout there has a brocade license generation program??????????!!!!!!! ;-)

Happy days.......

Steve

If both switches think they're principal - then that sort-of tells me they haven't merged correctly! - you can only have one principal switch in a fabric. (Don't assume that just because the ISL ports are set for E_port then everything must be correct)

From the CLI run 'fabricshow', or click on the 'fabric' icon from the GUI (either switch) - unless both switches can "see" each other and report 2 switches if the fabric, then the fabric is segmented.

On the newer switch there is a command called 'fabricprincipal' (use 'help' for the correct syntax) which should set it as the principal switch, and quite honestly, the newer switch should take that role rather than the old 2800.

If the switches have merged correctly, you have a bit of an 'anomoly' - like I said - there shouldn't be two principal switches. I can only suggest you check the 2800 is at F/W V2.6.2C or V2.6.2D, and the 4GB switch is at V5.2.0 or 5.3.0.

Let us know how it goes!

Hi,
Sorry no one got back to you earlier - bit busy.
Good to see you sorted it out yourself and you posted the "fix" as well for all to see.

No Problem MEA[T]!

Heard anything from Wolly Mammoth recently?

Heard his name a few times the other week while I was on site - but had no sightings of him!

Regards
Steve

Hi,
Yeah, out for a drink/meal with WM last Friday night as it happens - he was in good spirits. Thanks for asking, I will pass on your regards next time I see him.
