We have 2 x 2C8D EVA6000's with CA replication and intend to purchase two further arrays. I have proposed 2 x 2C18D EVA6400's again with CA. The cost with minimal disks is about 250K+ and I am being asked to consider alternatives. Does anyone have any comments on equivalent mid-range solutions from IBM/EMC/Hitachi/Sun etc. I can think of a number of reasons for remaining with hp but wonder are there positive comments to say about the other players. TIA

Hello Tom
I don't think anyone at Host has had any first hand experience with the alternatives you have mentioned. We are however moving into the HP LeftHand SAN solutions and it may be worth taking a look at what it has to offer.

Hi Tom,

I don't posess the knowledge to accurately compare the EVA6000 and LeftHand SAN solutions, but I am aware that the latter provides DR and HA capabilities using an iSCSI infrastructure (1Gb and 10Gb), based on HP LeftHand SAN/iQ Storage Software.
Specific hardware (P4000) may be purchased, although the HP SAN/iQ Software will run on most ProLiant Server Platforms, however only a few are qualified and supported.

I do have a colleague who not only Instructs on the EVA, but is also part of our LeftHand project team who I'm sure would have been able to provide you with comparison data, but unfortunately he is away on leave.

In the mean time, I would suggest you take a look at the following link to HP's LeftHand web pages as you may find some useful technical reference data about HP's LeftHand solutions.

Kind regards
