Hi Chaps,
I don't remember covering this on the course, & possibly the chap who's asked this question is confusing these Switches with the OA, but here's what he's saying. Is he correct? The C Class switches however are in clusters of 2 and are able to communicate with each other across the back plane. This means if a primary switch fails the service will run on the backup however if a new switch is installed the backup switch recognises this & tries to switch the service back automatically. Unless the new switch is pre-configured it will load a default config which would not match any of the vlan or addressing associated with the service leading to a service outage. Any help please. Regards, |

Point 1 OA's communicate acros a midplane management bus and the active shares it's config settings with the standby (for fail-over purposes).
Point 2 The Cisco 3020 Catalyst switch by default does not communicate with the switch in the adjacent bay unless croslinks are established and enabled (Ports 23 and 24). Point 3 Both of the Ethernet switches will hold their running config, and in the event of switch replacement, download of the configuration files using TFTP may be necessary, that's if changes have been made (and saved)to the original default shipped config. I too am a little confused as to whether its the OA or the Ethernet switches that are being referenced so perhaps someone can advise. Kind regards Paul A |
