I have an msa1000 with 3 full enclosures attached. There is no more expansion available.
One of the enclosures is full of 72gb drives. Is it possible to replace each 72gb drive one by one with a 300gb drive and when finished then make use of the extra space? If not possible then I will run out of space within the year. |

Hi Jez, "Happy New Year" from all at HOST
First of all, the MSA1000 supports 300GB drives in a MSA30 enclosure (Source: HP Quickspecs) With adequate redundancy, I do not see an issue with replacing a disk drive one at a time but there are implications in doing so (reconstruct time etc, vulnerability of reduced storageset etc). The additional space will then allow you to expand an array or where supported extend the logical drive but again there are time issues associated with any of these functions. Don't know if that helps, the usual disclaimer applies though! : ) Kind regards Paul |
